A warrior was shot dead in Afghanistan today, the Service of Protection said.
The part of the 2nd Battalion, the Mercian Regiment, was murdered at the point when his watch was assaulted by extremists in the Nahr-e Saraj region of Helmand Province.
During the attack, he endured a lethal shot wound, the MoD said. His family have been told.

Task Compel Helmand representative Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Mackenzie said: â€˜The passing of this overcome warrior is a disaster which has influenced us all.

The soldier’s demise takes the number of English troops who have passed on since operations in Afghanistan started in 2001 to 384.
