Police say the fire is being permitted to proceed to consume under the control of the Pullover Fire Benefit so that there is no build-up of gas.
Emergency administrations were called to the Pullover Gas site in Tunnell Road at around 12.30pm after blazes started pouring out its side.
Those living inside the streets close to the burst have been cleared for the night.
